Research interests

My research interests can be summarized along the following three dimensions:
  • At a theoretical level, I study trust, organizational routines/capabilities, and microinstitutional processes.
  • At a substantive level, I address interorganizational relationships, R&D, and firm success.
  • At a methodological level, I utilize experiments, surveys, and large archival data sets.

My work has appeared or is conditionally accepted for publication in top outlets including the American Sociological Review, the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the Academy of Management Journal, the Strategic Management Journal, the Journal of Management, Strategic Organization, Long Range Planning, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, and the Journal of Product Innovation Management, among other journals. It has so far been cited more than 3,000 times on Google Scholar.

Some of my projects have been generously funded by the National Science Foundation, the German Research Foundation (DFG), and the Alexander-von-Humboldt Foundation, among others.

I have received several awards for my research, including a Highly Commended Emerald/EFMD Outstanding Doctoral Research Award, an AOM Distinguished Student Paper Award, AOM BPS and OMT Division Best Paper Awards, and several best paper awards by the American Marketing Association.
